Een dystopisch sprookje over onze relatie tot de voedselketen.
Three actors and a food designer take us on a journey through a fairy tale about human evolution as a hungry species—and how we have shaped the world to suit that appetite. It is a story of modernization and alienation, but also of the wonder of the senses and the pleasure of enjoyment. Through a collage of scenes, a tribute is paid to the tomato: a humble fruit-vegetable that is, at the same time, a source of Dutch pride.
How can a greater appreciation for our food bring about a shift in our relationship with nature? What position do we, as humans, occupy within the vast ecological chain? For this project, the actors from Het Markttheater interviewed farmers, culinary historians, market traders, food visionaries, and foragers. They agree on one thing: the food supply chain needs to change. But how?
