Instant Love

Instant Love is the story of Grace, who is lured into the world of prostitution by the charming pimp King. He promises her a golden future, but she ultimately falls into the trap of this ruthless deceiver. Without a passport or papers, she is disenfranchised and unprotected, leaving her with nothing but revenge. Instant Love shows how vulnerable people are when they lose autonomy over their own lives. Harald Austbø wrote new compositions for the octet specifically for this performance; lyrical melodies that capsize and are overwhelmed by dissonants, catchy schlagers that are abrasively and slowly undermined. Heavenly music with gritty, raw edges. Instant Love – a brand-new and topical text by Ko van de Bosch, directed by Ria Marks. Instant Love is the second part of a social (theatrical musical) trilogy, created by Music Theater Company Via Berlin and Cello Octet Amsterdam. “Everything is right in Instant Love. The music grates, hurts, or seduces, and forms a sublime unity with the acting.”

“Enough material for a poignant, naturalistic drama. It doesn’t become that, if only because of those eight cellists (including those playing Grace and King). Their music, written by Harald Austbø, winds around the action in all sorts of forms: poignant dissonants, thin fragments of melody, mercurial turns, even banal schlager references that fit King’s sleazy pimp persona well.”(…) “Instant Love: a moving performance that beautifully shows what it must be like when your self-determination evaporates in such a distressing situation: prostitution, the porn industry.”
